“Also, existing native support for the PS4 controller on the PC is a bit weak in this case Steam itself is communicating directly with the device so everything that’s nice and reliable,” Bellinghausen said. That’s good news for PC gamers who might already be using a PS4 controller on PC, but need third-party applications like Joy2Key to emulate keyboard input or DS4Windows to emulate an Xbox 360 controller.īellinghausen noted that the DualShock 4 has “a lot of overlapping functionality with the Steam Controller,” thanks to the PS4 gamepad’s gyro and touchpad features. “You make the exact same API calls, you only get actions, not inputs, and the Steam API takes care of everything.” “Believe it or not, when you use the PS4 Controller through the Steam API, it’s exactly the same as a Steam Controller,” Bellinghausen said. In a transcript of Bellinghausen’s talk posted to Gamasutra, the developer talked about the benefits of supporting the PlayStation 4 controller via the Steam Controller API. Original story: Valve is bringing native support for Sony’s DualShock 4 controller to Steam, Valve’s Jeff Bellinghausen announced at Steam Dev Days today. to keyboard, mouse, or x-input outputs and can make use of action sets, touch menus, radial menus, and so forth. PS4 Controllers using this system can map the trackpad, gyro, buttons, etc. When enabled, PS4 controllers will have access to the same sort of customization/configuration support as Steam Controllers, including native API support. Enable in Big Picture settings Add/Test Controller settings.

Hopefully, I've just messed something up and it can be easily fixed. Click 'Install the DS4 Driver' to enable you to use the PS4 DualShock controller in Windows 8, Windows 8.1, and Windows 10. Is this just an oversight? Am I missing something? It can't really be considered a full-controller support game if one of the controllers supported by Steam doesn't work with it. I assumed it was a binding gone wrong, but theres no way to re-bind the camera control since it's not in the controller binding settings. In both cases, the camera couldn't be controller by the right stick. At one point I somehow did stop it, I think it was because I opened the menu, but then it never turned again. A steady, unrelenting turn that could not be stopped. The camera constantly turned to the left. However, when I loaded up the game there was a gamebreaking issue.

However, this issue was nothing that actually effected me. LEAVE A LIKE IF YOUR NEW AND SUBGET IN CONTACT WITH METwitter. I dunno if its possible to differentiate between controllers, but if its not, maybe put all the button variations in? (Like Jump = X/A and whatever the Steam controllers button is) But for people for haven't, it could be confusing. Firstly, the bindings only relate to the Xbox controller layout so it's a bit a headwork (but nothing difficult for someone who's played both systems).

I can't use my laptops touch pad since I can't move and look around at the same time (I've tried disabling everything related to it, it still won't let me move the camera) so I plugged in my DS4 (since Subnautica's Steam page says it has full controller support) and checked the controller bindings so I could change them to my own liking. a polished level editor, as broad as possible midi controller (DJ gear). Steam recently released support for the PS4's Dualshock 4 Controller and since I don't have an xbox controller, that's perfect for me.
